Webinar overview
Capita Entrust and Ruckus Technologies hosted an online discussion in May that explored how laying the foundation of a reliable, robust and modern network enables schools to focus on strategic initiatives, achieving learning outcomes and implementing digital technologies across the curriculum.
Top webinar discussion points
- The next generation network for schools is expected to rely heavily on wireless access, as wireless connectivity is becoming the primary mode of access for educational devices.
- A school network needs to be designed to accommodate the increasing number of devices connecting to the network, including IoT devices such as anti-vape detection, security cameras, and air quality sensors.
- Wired access is now primarily used as an aggregation point for wireless traffic, so it is important to optimize the throughput and power needs of access points.
- When considering network upgrades, it is important to assess the current state of the network and determine if there is a need for immediate upgrades. This can be done by monitoring network performance and having SLAs in place.
- Power requirements for access points, especially with the introduction of Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7, need to be carefully considered to ensure that the network can support the power demands of newer devices. Upgrading switches to provide more power may be necessary to fully utilize the capabilities of the access points.
